Our August Treasure Experience: The Basis of True Understanding is the second in the series of 5 classes given during Spiritual Renewal Week 1990 based on Swami Kriyananda’s book The Essence of Self-Realization.

Swami discusses the need for a shift in religion from the emphasis on scripture and intellectual understanding of God to a direct spiritual experience of life and also to re-emphasize and study the lives of the saints. The saints have cultivated a dynamic relationship with God in the form that most inspires them.

He also explains the difference between belief and faith and that deep faith is developed by an experience of the divine working through us. Meditation is key in developing intuition and faith.

He ends this class with a beautiful quote from The Essence of Self-Realization: “Divine grace is like the most precious of those rare diamonds. It is there to be found by all who will seek it diligently, but in order to find it one must do more than glance through a few books, or attend a few lectures. Grace cannot be found where people merely believe it to be. It must be sought in the right way, in the right place, and in the right spirit. The right spirit is an attitude of unconditional love for God. The right place is within yourself. The right way is in the silence of deep meditation. To find God, you must attune yourself to his ways.”

Tribute to Lorne Dekun

Treasures will be offering these 1990 Spiritual Renewal Week class recordings over the next months, June 2014 – November 2014, in honor of our dear friend Lorne Dekun who passed away last year. He was greatly inspired by the content in these classes and urged us to offer them to everyone.

Lorne studied with Oliver Black and Swami Kriyananda and moved to Michigan in 1999 to give classes on the teachings of self-realization, teach yoga postures and start meditation groups and centers in Lansing and Detroit. We pay tribute to Lorne and also to his wife Judy and the many great souls who continue to expand the work in Michigan.
