Spiritual Communities: Living for a Higher Purpose

Spiritual Communities: Living for a Higher Purpose - Swami Kriyananda

Time: 69:06
Archive Date: 8/26/85
Treasures Offering: June 2008

This talk was given in honor of Ananda’s 40th Anniversary.

Swami describes his dream for Ananda and the importance of living for a higher and broader purpose. Swami begins this talk in a humorous way stating that his dream for Ananda is “paved roads.” Of course, his dream for Ananda is much more than that – but in his humor he also makes an important point – that having high ideals does not mean sacrificing practicality. In fact, he tells us that idealism is the highest kind of practicality. When we place our spiritual goals and high ideals in the forefront of our lives, the little things somehow workout well.

Swami encourages us to see our lives in a broader context by examining how our lives relate to other peoples lives, to higher realities, and ultimately, to God. He explains how spiritual communities are creating a vortex of energy that is very much needed on this planet at this time by bringing back spiritual values in a new and higher way. Swami gives many examples and ways in which we can help increase the spiritual light within ourselves and on this planet, whether we are actually living in a spiritual community or not.
